👋 Hey there! I’m Jesse, welcome to my date me doc. Feel free to peruse and message me if you feel like. Disclaimer: This is a bit of an experiment and I’m not sure what I want/expect to get out of this precisely.
Background info: I’m Jesse. I’m a 22 year old straight, monogamous man living in Berkeley. I’m from Lexington, MA, went to Tufts for undergrad, and after graduating last year I moved here to start a job at an AI safety nonprofit in Berkeley!
Other quick facts: I’m vegan, involved with effective altruism, love rock climbing, love Notion, live in an group house, and have been told I have golden retriever energy
Also some people said I should put my height: I’m 6’4”

Making the world better
- I feel a strong responsibility to help people and help them in the most effective way possible (see https://www.effectivealtruism.org/ for more)
- This has some nontrivial implications for how I live my life
- I donate >%10 of my income to effective charities
- I became vegan 2 years ago
- I transitioned my career into AI safety last year
- I don’t think I have all of it right, please tell me what I am doing wrong
- Here’s a screenshot of my more rigorously defined goals
I have lots more to say here, ask me about it!

Organizing my life in Notion
I love being organized. It makes me really happy. In Notion specifically, I love how I can model my workspace after how I wished my brain was structured. I think more clearly when I’m thinking in Notion.
Things I have in Notion
- This date me doc (can you tell?)
- My website (jessewgilbert.com) - has lots of fun personal projects and jessewgilbert.com/personal where you can find restaurants, recipes, books, and productivity tips
- My journal (I journal every day, and have for 1678 days at the time of writing this)
- A database of my relationships (including friends and acquaintances) now at 620 people!!
- This is my main dashboard page currently
- And so much more! Ask me about it!

Rock climbing
Especially BIG outdoor climbs. My favorite climbing qualifiers are: alpine trad multipitch
What I love about climbing
- Being outside
- Trying really hard on something
- The exhilaration, fear, and adrenaline that I get when doing scary climbs
- Getting really high up, seeing beautiful views that are really hard to get to
- I think climbing is the perfect shared activity for socializing
- It's cooperative, you encourage each other, problem-solve climbs together, it's easy to chat while you’re resting, it’s easy to climb when you’re bored of the conversation :)

- Reading (I’m in a bit of a reading slump at the moment though)
- Learning random things on YouTube

- Asking people I just met really personal questions
- Biking way too fast around Berkeley (I think I should really stop doing this…) - love the Berkeley Hills too

👀 What I’m looking for in a romantic relationship
I’m looking to hang out, hook up, go on dates, and maybe be in a more serious relationship. I likely will want to be married eventually, but I’m not thinking about that at all now. In committed relationships, I am monogamous but I am open to other arrangements for less serious relationships. I’m not in a particular rush and don’t have everything figured out.
Here are some miscellaneous attributes I can opine on

- Here are some red flags I wrote a while ago that I don’t completely endorse but I’ll leave them here because they are interesting
